OUTSTANDING Pool Cleaner!,
Date:June 8, 2010

"This is an amazing automatic pool cleaner.
First off, Specialty Pool Products ships so fast, that it is unreal. One (1) business day delivery. Once more, two weeks ago, I ordered a Hayward 1hp inground pool pump which Arrived in LESS than 24 hours (17 hours to be exact). Beyond amazing. It was almost like I went to go make a ham & cheese sandwich, and the doorbell rang (FedEx). I am very impressed with the integrity & responsiveness of Specialty Pool Products.
Now, back to my review... This Polaris 360 automatic pool cleaner works fantastically. Our pool is 16 x 36' (with a step-in shallow end), and we're running the Polaris 360 from the "return" (filtered-in line) nearest our new Hayward 1hp pool pump.
The Polaris 360 comes fully assembled except for attaching the return line to the Polaris Cleaner (via a circular ring-crimp closure - that tightens against the flexible return supply line. My only suggestion is to take a close look at how the smallest section (an approximate 1' foot end section) fits into the cleaner (versus the supply line); it is not completely idiot proof. However, once you're done attaching the cleaner, all that's left is removing your pool's "eyeball" return attachment (usually screws-into the wall of the pool), and install the Polaris-provided "Quick-Connect / Quick Disconnect" attachment (for quickly installing the Polaris 360 return line to the pool wall. Polaris designed an "in, turn, out & lock" Quick Disconnect that is goof proof.
Once the Quick Disconnect has been installed, all that is necessary for Polaris use is to turn off the pump, remove the Polaris 360 (provided) Quick Disconnect return water "eyeball," and pop-in the Polaris 360 Quick Disconnect water supply line (and Polaris 360 assembly). With the pump off, this swap over can be done in 20 seconds, max.
The entire out-of-box to fully functional process should take about 20 minutes - max.
Granted, with our new 1hp Hayward pump, we are getting much better water flow (velocity & mass) from our pool pump, and perhaps the strength of the new pump is part of the secret of our new Polaris 360's success.
Bottom line: I am extremely impressed with the cleaning effect & action of our new Polaris 360. I envisioned a partially effective automatic pool cleaner, and frankly would have been satisfied with partial success; I don't enjoy cleaning a pool. However, the Polaris 360's effectiveness is beyond satisfactory; it does an amazing job.
The Polaris 360 has an in-line "nylon gear" system powered by motive flow of the return line's filter water. And "apparently" the gear system causes the Polaris 360 to perform a variety of mechanical functions, all very effective, which would lead you to believe that it is computer-driven.
For example, the 3-wheeled Polaris 360 will creep on the bottom of the pool with its tail jetting and waging whilst power water jets upward in a vacuum-like effect, "lifting" debris on the bottom on the pool into its nylon debris net. The Polaris moves in all directions, crossing and creeping covering the sides and bottom of the pool. After it works a certain section for a period of time, the "gear computer" somehow changes the Polaris' mission from bottom dweller to neutrally buoyant, then uses forward water jetting effect to move backward to a completely different section of the pool. Once relocated, it settles back to the bottom & sides, and continues its cleaning operation.
Later in the "gear driven" computer plan of the Polaris 360, it attains full buoyancy, moves to the top of the pool, and sprays water from a blow-hole, weighing down any top-floating debris, settling it to the bottom, where the Polaris 360 returns later on to vacuum-up into its nylon net.
I'm quite impressed with this pool cleaning device. Some said the 360 was not as good or effective as its more expensive "boost pump" powered brethren. All I can say is that I'm very satisfied with the 360's cleaning effect, and if the more costly Polaris versions are even better, I now believe it (seeing for myself the extreme effectiveness of the 360), but currently don't need anything better. I'm leaving our Polaris 360 out to work over night with amazing results.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Polaris 360 for pools of similar size to ours. Works great!
Last comment: You're want an immaculate location to store your Polaris 360 when not in use. Something on the order of a lift-top synthetic storage box (with air ventilation) ought to be used to keep the Polaris 360 assembly clean (out of water) and away from accidental damage."

Polaris is a little finniky,

"I've owned two of these 360's for about 8 years, and have really figured them out. Many times the results are dissapointing. But it's usually because the have to be operated with enough pressure at the unit. Many pumps just don't push enough pressure to maintain enough wheel rpm per their instructions. I had to cap one of my three eyeball fittings, and use a very small 3/8" outlet on the other so that most of the pump flow goes through the polaris (@ 3rd return line). Need about 26-28 psi at the filter, and similar at the 360. Must keep the hose filter clean (@ eyeball connection). When operated per the manual, it works fine. Polaris will help you figure it out."
